It is our goal that everyone who resides within the service area of the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District be trained in CPR. To accomplish this, we are offering monthly classes in “hands only” CPR, HeartSaver CPR and AED, First Aid, and Friends and Family. For health care professionals, we also offer BLS for the HCP as well as ACLS and PALS. Full class descriptions with our 2012 class dates are listed below.

Hands (Compression) Only CPR

If an adult suddenly collapses, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest. Don’t be afraid. The Hands Only CPR course is a short course that will show you the fundamentals of doing lifesaving cardiac chest compressions.

  • Course length is approximately 2 hours.
  • There is no written or practical exam.

Friends and Family

The CPR for Family and Friends Course targets all lay rescuers, such as school children, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and other laypersons who want to learn rescue skills for loved ones.  The course teaches rescuers skills in CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. It presents information about the AHA adult Chain of Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, and choking in adults.

  • Course length is 4 Hours.
  • A participation card is awarded only. Written and practical exams are NOT required.

Heartsaver CPR/AED

The Heartsaver ® CPR AED course is intended for all individuals who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities. It is also appropriate for lay rescuers who may have a need to respond to an emergency in the workplace, and family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death.

  • Course length is approximately 3 to 4 hours.

  • Resident: $40.00
  • Non-Resident: $50.00

Heartsaver First Aid

The Heartsaver ® First Aid course is intended for all individuals who have a duty to respond to a first aid emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. It is also appropriate for lay rescuers who may have a need to respond to an emergency in the workplace, or just simply the desire to make a difference.

  • Course length is approximately 3 to 4 hours.
  • Skills testing will be done by an instructor during the course.

  • Resident: $25.00
  • Non-Resident: $35.00

BLS for Healthcare Providers – Initial Provider Course

The BLS for Healthcare Providers course is designed to provide a wide variety of certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed, healthcare professionals with the skills to keep people alive until they can be brought to a hospital or be treated with more advanced lifesaving measures.

  • Students must pass a written exam and skills test in order to qualify for a BLS for Healthcare Provider Course Completion Card.
  • Course length is approximately 4.5 hours.
